NasaWing Builders Gallery

A collection of NasaWing builders and pictures of their kites. View, wonder, learn, enjoy.
NPW9b The two first NPW9b's that I built in early 2003 were one 2.8 sqm with a wide (0.67:1) centre panel and one 2.8 sqm with a narrow (0.5:1) centre panel. I have used both kites in the development and finetuning of my "Buzzard One" profile. Materials are Chikara, Spectra and Dacron for secondaries. A 5.8 and 1.5 sqm Buzzard is now on the way.
In the spring of 2003, I spent most of my kite time trying to perfect my "Buzzard Revolution" bridling - this profile is faster and a bit more demanding on the flyer. Hopefully its values will be finalized in the summer of 2003.
I am 35 years old, live in Sweden with a wife and 2 kids and also fly C-quads. Do not hesitate to contact me with comments or questions!

NPW9 This is my 4.8m NPW9 which I have build last christmas and had made its appearance at the 2003 Johore Pasir Gudang International Kite festival. I buggy using NPWs exclusively and I had made many NPWs over the years for friends and this is my latest. In case you are wondering how I got the Artwork on to the kite. It has been printed onto the uncoated ripstop using a commercial large format printer. I had managed to find one which had a transfer system that works on ripstop. The Inks are waterproof and the system works very much the same principle as T-shirt transfers. Expensive but worth it. The face is inspired by Japanese Rokkaku paintings and I had drawn it using Macromedia FreeHand. I work as a Art Director for an Ad Agency here in Malaysia.

NPW9b Laurel built using JP's software, A=150cm, with the bridling as defined in the last Tom White RSN calculator. The kite flies very well, quick turns, hardly suffers from nose collapsing, however, still a little noisy on the wing tips. The kite was build March 2003.
This was my first 4-line flight I ever made with any NPW! I have experience with 4-line flying with my Bean and C-quad.
Time: 18.30, the wind was lousy, North 2 Bft, Place: Holland, Zeewolde in the green heart of the village 200m from my house.

NPW9b Vulture. Built using Tom White's software, the "A" size is 156cm and the overall dimension is about 3.6 m^2. I used the classical briddling, with 3 points Q gathering. The sail is made of RSN (Chikara).
The pictures were taken April 12th or 13th 2003, at the Richelieu Airport (south shore of Montreal, Quebec, Canada). The wind wasn't very strong (from the Airport windsock), less than 15 knots, usually 8-9, with some gust at 20 maybe. I had to stop after 1 hour, not enough wind to fly.

NPW9b Vulture, NPW5 Besides his innovative and fast way of building the NasaWing ( see site below), Bill has been heavily involved designing and developing the NPW9b. The Vulture (flown 3/03) pictured here is 2.7m^2 (A=135cm) with cascade bridling. For more info on the Vulture click: http://members.cox.net/superwino1/VulturePage.htm

5_8shirt.jpg -- 5.8M2 wing made for a Middlesbrough football club fan to tow his buggy seems to work - stopped the traffic on a neaby road when first flown
I find Peter De Jong's plan flies best, the 1.5M2 size is good for a general fly-about size without getting too hairy in medium winds

Here are some photo's of my buddy Larry Green's Nasa Parawings. The first one with the puzzle pieces was his first. It was built in June 2002. It was built from scrap ripstop and he and his wife sewed over 100 individual pieces over a period of four 12 hour days. It was their first NPW ever. It measures 2.4 m and pulls like a pickup. The next set of photo's, Larry and Karen built for me. The kite is 4.8m and was built over four days again, but this time they built 2 NPW's. One for me and one I gave as a Christmas gift. These kites pull like 3 locamotives. They were built in December 2002.

"These are all 2.3m^2 and are supposed to look like birds. We had a holiday in Australia last year (2001) and planned to meet up with three other couples on Norfolk Island (About half way between Aus and NZ). So I made four kites and took them with us. The photos were taken on the lawn behind the Governors House on Norfolk Island."
